Leaving the Test Center
After submitting your last answer, you may receive a preliminary result at the testing center indicating a pass or fail. This preliminary result is not your official score but gives you an immediate sense of how you did. Take a deep breath regardless of the outcome. The hard work of preparation and test-taking is now behind you.
Official Results
Your official score report will be available through your PTCB account. The report includes your scaled score and a breakdown of your performance by domain. If you passed, this report confirms your certification. If you did not pass, the domain breakdown is an invaluable guide for focusing your study if you plan to retake the exam.
If You Passed
Congratulations are in order. You will be able to use the CPhT credential, and your certification will be listed in the PTCB directory. Update your resume, notify your employer if applicable, and take pride in a significant professional accomplishment. Remember that certification requires ongoing continuing education to maintain.
If You Did Not Pass
Not passing is disappointing but not the end of the road. Many successful pharmacy technicians did not pass on their first attempt. Review your score report carefully to identify which domains need the most work. Develop a targeted study plan that focuses on those areas, adjust your study strategies based on what you learned from the experience, and schedule a retake when you feel ready.
Starting Your Career
Whether you are entering the workforce for the first time or advancing in a current position, your CPhT credential opens doors. Apply for positions that interest you, continue learning through experience and continuing education, and remember that passing the PTCE is the beginning of your professional development, not the end.
