Building a Strong Pharmacy Technician Resume

How to present your CPhT credential and pharmacy experience effectively.

April 20, 2026

Lead With Certification

Your CPhT credential belongs near the top of your resume, either after your name or in a dedicated credentials section. This immediately signals to employers that you have verified knowledge and professional commitment. If you are currently studying for the PTCE, you can note that you are a "PTCE candidate" with an expected certification date.

Highlight Relevant Skills

Pharmacy-specific skills to include:

  • Prescription processing and data entry
  • Insurance billing and third-party claim resolution
  • Inventory management and ordering
  • Controlled substance handling and documentation
  • Customer service and patient interaction
  • Pharmacy software systems you have used
  • Compounding experience if applicable

Quantify When Possible

Instead of "processed prescriptions," try "processed approximately X prescriptions per shift in a high-volume retail pharmacy." Numbers give employers a concrete sense of your experience level and work capacity.

Education and Training

List your pharmacy technician training program, any relevant coursework, and continuing education. If you completed a formal training program, include the program name, institution, and completion date.

Transferable Skills

If you are entering pharmacy from another field, highlight transferable skills like customer service experience, attention to detail, data entry speed, cash handling, and healthcare-related knowledge. These skills are directly relevant to pharmacy work.

Keep It Clean

Use a clear, professional format. Stick to one page if you have less than ten years of experience. Proofread carefully, as errors on a pharmacy technician resume are especially problematic given that the job requires attention to detail. Have someone else review it before submitting.
