Continuing Education for Pharmacy Technicians

Why continuing education matters and how to stay current after certification.

January 22, 2026

Why CE Matters

Earning your CPhT is not the end of learning. Pharmacy practice evolves with new medications, updated regulations, and changing best practices. Continuing education keeps your knowledge current and is required to maintain certification.

Recertification Requirements

To maintain your CPhT, you must complete continuing education hours during each recertification cycle. Check the PTCB website for current requirements, as they can be updated periodically.

Where to Find CE

  • Online courses from accredited providers
  • Pharmacy associations and professional organizations
  • Employer-sponsored training programs
  • Pharmacy conferences and workshops
  • Webinars and self-study programs

Many options are free, especially through pharmacy employers and professional associations. Look for ACPE-accredited programs to ensure they count.

Making CE Useful

Approach CE thoughtfully rather than just checking a box. Choose topics that address knowledge gaps or align with career goals. Want to move into compounding? Take compounding CE courses. Struggle with insurance billing? Find billing-focused courses.

Tracking Hours

Keep records of every CE course: provider, date, topic, and credit hours. Some providers report directly to the PTCB, but maintaining your own records ensures you can verify compliance during recertification.
